How this retreat started...
In 2021, we shared an office at the University of Groningen, discussing our passions, the meaning of life, the power of community, breathwork techniques, and best practices to live a balanced life. At the beginning of 2022, the idea of hosting a retreat came up for the first time. Back then, it was still vague. Our intuition was that retreats can be a powerful tool to reflect and reconnect with oneself. The silence came into the mix later, after Mirle attended a silent retreat in Italy and was completely amazed by its transformative power. We met up to discuss what we would like to offer to participants and what kind of environment we would like to create. And this was the birth of "silentretreat.nl".
Hi! I am Mirle (29), and I am deeply passionate about personal development, psychology, yoga, meditation, and breathwork. I am also intrigued by the power of silence, which led me to co-found silentretreat.nl with Franzi.
My Journey and Certifications
Yoga: I have completed several yoga teacher trainings:
Yin Yoga (50-hour Teacher Training) at Arhanta Yoga in the Netherlands
Ashtanga Yoga (40-hour Teacher Training) at Ashtanga Yoga Paris with David Swenson
Hatha Yoga (200-hour Teacher Training) at Arhanta Yoga in India
Meditation: I completed a 50-hour Meditation Teacher Training at Arhanta Yoga. Moreover, I completed two years of Meditation training with Jan Geurtz, who teaches mostly in line with the Dzogchen tradition.
Breathwork: I have completed all levels (1, 2, and 3) of the Breathwork Masterclass by Kasper van der Meulen, making me a certified Breathwork Coach.
Psychology: I am currently finishing my degree in Psychology.
My Work
I run Mindful with Mirle (follow on Instagram at @mindfulwithmirle), where I offer both in-person and online coaching for entrepreneurs and business owners. My focus is on helping clients create more balance in their lives by managing stress and preventing burnout.
My Personal Experience
A few years ago, I experienced a burnout. Since then, I have been exploring ways to calm my nervous system and enhance balance in my life. This journey led to my full recovery and helped me become a better version of myself. During a silent retreat in Italy, I discovered that silence can connect us with ourselves in a profound way that is often hard to achieve in our busy lives.
My Mission
I decided to share the power of silence to help others (re)connect with themselves in a powerful and authentic way. Through silentretreat.nl, I aim to provide experiences that foster inner peace and self-discovery. I am so excited for you to be joining me on this journey towards balance and self-connection :)!
Hi! I am Franzi (30), a passionate yoga teacher, work psychologist, and dancer. Yoga has been a fundamental part of my life since 2020. Being stuck at home and losing my routine due to the pandemic threw me off balance. Starting my days with yoga helped me to regain some structure in my life - it became my anchor. My passion for yoga next to my desire to bring people together inspired me to co-found silentretreat.nl with Mirle.
My Journey and Certifications
Yoga: I completed the 200-hour Fundamental Teacher Training at Open Yoga in Groningen in 2023 and have been part of their teacher team since June 2024. I predominantly teach Hatha Yoga and Slow Flow classes.
Meditation: My morning meditation practice sets the tone for the day.
Breathwork: In 2023, I learned more about breathwork and how it can help regulate the nervous system by participating in a 1:1 coaching with the wonderful Laura Lamers (check her profile here: https://www.deepn.nl/).
Psychology: I hold a Master's degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology.
My Work
In addition to yoga, I am pursuing a PhD in Work & Organizational Psychology at the University of Groningen, researching what makes people happy at work. I focus on modern team arrangements (particularly hybrid work) and advise companies on designing workplaces that allow employees to thrive while ensuring organizational success.
My Personal Experience
Practicing yoga and meditation helps me stay balanced and in tune with my body and its needs. Silence is a rather new component that Mirle introduced to me. Since then, I have incorporated silence in my daily life (e.g., through walks in nature and dedicated me-time) and will attend a more extended silent retreat in September 2024.
My Mission
My mission in life is to connect people and to add to their well-being. During our silent retreats, participants build a strong connection to one another, not via verbal communication but simply by being in each other´s company and providing a safe space for reflection and inner work. I find this to be very special. Through silentretreat.nl, I can foster this special connection between people and help them enhance their well-being.
